Before
you get your hopes up, it wasn't mine, but it felt just as special.
On my month
mark, or birthday, on saturday (super crazy ps, they say the first
month is the longest. If that is true, you should start planning my homecoming)
anyway, Saturday we took one of our star investigators to our weekly
activity. To our great surprise, there was a baptism! Luis watched the whole
thing and to make things better, asked what he had to do to be baptized too.
Sad thing is, he is only 11 and has to be active three months before the
baptism can be authorized. Either that or his parents need to be married and
baptized too. We are working and praying hard for him.
Also a testimony on love. If you remember that I said in
my farewell that even just letting people feel love makes a huge difference,
this is an example of that. There is a group of young girls we visit. We have
gone like 6 times, they have only been there once. Their aunt is a bit older
and super unhappy with us every time we come. Contrary to dominican custom, she
doesn´t greet us. She says a little as possible, and hardly even tries to make
excuses. It has been obvious she doesn't like us much. Weird right? Anyway, the
other day we were determined to help her somehow. We worked on her and worked
on her from ouside the gate. Finally, she let us in. But only because we
promised we wouldn't be longer than five minutes, (like she needed the time)
just a song and prayer to invite the spirit, because we love her. We sang
"let the holy spirit guide," prayed, and were all done. She was
completely different. She chatted a little, hugged and kissed us goodbye, said
we were welcome to come back, "God bless." I am telling you, the
spirit and actions of love change people tremendously. I experience this every
day, it is beautiful.
Aside from these things, not much has gone down. The usual
work. It is beautiful and happy work, but we are still awaiting the fruits to
tell you about.
I send all the Dominican Love you can receive!
Til next week,
Hermana Charity Paige Meldrum
